The Royal 5C type 1 manual collet closer with 1-1/16" capacity fixes the collet and workpiece position for precision work in both stationary and rotary table applications, and is configured for both four- and six-slot mounting. The type 1 closer style has three tiers for clearance and use with 5C collets. The closer keeps the 5C collet and workpiece position fixed, and the cam operation pushes a tapered sleeve forward to close the stationary collet. It improves productivity, handling turning applications faster than a standard lathe collet. It has mounting holes that are on a 4.125" bolt circle diameter and comes with a cam wrench to tighten and release closer. Using the included wrench, closing takes about 90 degrees of cam rotation. When used according to manufacturers recommendations, this product is covered by a one-year warranty against defects in workmanship.
Collet closers are used on machines without a hydraulic actuator and drawtube to hold and clamp a workpiece on an axis so that work such as turning, milling or grinding can be performed symmetrically. They are an alternative to a lathe chuck or a machinist vise, which are also used to clamp workpieces, but collet closers require less work to adjust the size of the clamp opening and are more efficient in high-production applications. Collet closers are sized for holding a specific type of collet, which is a tapered metal sleeve with a round, square, hexagonal, or other shaped hole that fits around the end of a workpiece. Most collet closers rotate with the machines spindle, but some are stationary or rotate intermittently with an indexing head or rotary table.
